The fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman took place on the night of February 26, 2012, in Sanford, Florida, United States. Martin was a 17-year-old African American high school student. George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old mixed-race Hispanic, was the neighborhood watch coordinator for the gated community where Martin was temporarily staying and where the shooting took place. According to Zimmerman's subsequent testimony, Zimmerman shot Martin, who was unarmed, during an altercation between the two. Responding to an earlier call from Zimmerman, police arrived on the scene within two minutes of the shooting. Zimmerman was taken into custody, treated for head injuries, then questioned for five hours. The police chief said that Zimmerman was released because there was no evidence to refute Zimmerman's claim of having acted in self-defense, and that under Florida's Stand Your Groundstatute, the police were prohibited by law from making an arrest. The police chief also said that Zimmerman had had a right to defend himself with lethal force. As news of the case spread, thousands of protestors across the country called for Zimmerman's arrest and a full investigation. Six weeks after the shooting, amid widespread, intense, and in some cases misleading media coverage, Zimmerman was charged with murder by a special prosecutor appointed by Governor Rick Scott.

Zimmerman's trial began on June 10, 2013, in Sanford. On July 13, 2013, a jury acquitted him of second-degree murder and of manslaughter charges.

SUSPICIOUS (Trayvon Martin was murdered by George Zimmerman) Re-enactment Short film
Published on Apr 9, 2012
By Mike McMahon X. Official "Suspicious" short film reenacts the facts and theories of the Trayvon Martin case. This film was made in April, 2012 as part of the "I Am Trayvon Martin" movement, when the police were refusing to arrest George Zimmerman. Craftily using the Zimmerman 911 call and others, it is intended to generate healthy discussion about what happened the night of February 26, 2012. Our respect for the victim and his family is of the utmost. this video was made and uploaded before Zimmerman's arrest in mid-April, 2012, so not all facts known to us now were able to be incorporated into the film. If we had known, we would have shown the reality-- Zimmerman profiled, followed, and confronted Trayvon, and tried to detain him. This caused the boy to defend himself and fight him, and because Zimmerman thought Trayvon was an "asshole" from the nearby subdivision who was robbing their homes, he shot him when he was losing the fight. He assumed he would get away with the murder. He was right...but God won't let him get away with it!

GO SEE FRUITVALE STATION!!! It is an excellent movie; if you liked this, you'll love it. It is the story of Oscar Grant, who was shot in the back by a BART officer. Rest in Peace, Oscar. Your death was not in vain. His name appears at the end of "Suspicious"...
John Henry Spooner has been found guilty of shooting unarmed black teenager Darius Simmons in the chest, no doubt thanks only to the old man's own video surveillance that caught the entire assault on tape!
